It’s been a strange few weeks filled with both excitement and consternation. For me, the chance to be part of shaping Facebook as it evolves through what some might call a ‘second era’ is an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. But leaving HiiDef has been one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make.
The last three years working with the team have been my most fulfilling as a designer by far. As rewarding as the work has been, it’s the people that have made it. If you’re working with great people, work simply feels more like play. As well as being surrounded by a special bunch of people to share ideas with, I’ve always been afforded the complete freedom and good faith to really run with those ideas. I’ve had a chance to follow hunches, make mistakes, build from the ground up, and in some cases tear it all down. I’ve worked on strategy, design systems, interfaces, behaviors, identities, copy, videos, posters and pitches. It’s been a crazy adventure.
I’m also proud to say I’ve been part of building two products that are empowering literally hundreds of thousands of real people to be themselves on the web. That’s pretty special. And with what’s in the works, I know Flavors and Goodsie are only just getting started.
To my HiiDef dot comrades Jonathan, David, Jack, John, Ray, Sean, Heather, Jason, Brent and Katie — I love you guys and will miss working with you a great deal.
So long, and thanks for all the fish.
