Why the change? Well, as much as I love plastering my face all over things (..ahem), I think it was just time for a change. It’s been three years holding up the same almost-completely-static site — my arms hurt!
I’ve toyed with the idea of just modding it into a blog etc in the past, but it’s so much more exciting starting afresh. To add in the new content called for a complete redesign rather than a realign. I think I’ll keep the old design up on my Virb page (Non-disclosure Agreement)”: for the time being as I’m the sentimental type.
Writing is something that’s always felt like hard work for me, but it’s something I’ve always liked. I studied journalism at university and worked with a media company for a year or so before deciding it wasn’t really for me. Journalists should read the newspaper every day with a highlighter in hand, go snooping around confidential filing cabinets with torches and ask tough questions that catch people off guard. I realised early on, I just wasn’t the gumshoe type.
So then, why didn’t I get this blog business up sooner? Well, to be perfectly honest, I don’t think I’ve really had much of interest to say over the past few years. I’ve been too busy just getting all the things done that needed doing to really have the time or energy to write about it. But now, I’ve decided it might be interesting to share some of what’s going on in my world. It probably won’t be, but let’s see.
In this blog I’ll mainly be talking about things that float my boat – namely design, user interface, technology and life online. But also, I’d like to open up some discussion about things I’m trying to understand myself – those difficult philosophical and methodological questions that arise when trying to design something.
But who knows where it’ll end up? Certainly not me.
Lastly, I’ve gotta give a big thanks Oli from Kooc — you’re a legend, mate. Thanks to Leandro Vieira Pinho, the guys from Newism for the bigTarget stuff on the site, Adam Wulf, Kean Loong Tan and Remy Sharp for unknowingly helping this site happen. I’m sure there are still plenty of bugs around the site, so if you see one, let me know.
The old Digitalmash. We had some good times. Sob.
